why all point salad hatred

I never understood the dislike for point salad. One thing I like about a fair amount of Euros is the ability to NOT be shut out of victory points. I can understand the dislike for Stefan Feld because theme execution isn't his strong suit and his games can be mean but point salad? I can't support the dislike for it.

On a side note is point salad a game mechanic and if so what's the actual term for it?
